{Mamavation} Monday: Week 8

I maintained over the past 2 weeks since my last weigh in and scale picture.  For me this is a huge accomplishment.
Coming off the first full week of juicing.  I've learned a couple of things and came to the reality that I'm not going to be able to jump into it full force.  I've said it before, I don't eat a large variety of fruits and veggies.  Ever since I can remember I've had an issue with textures.  This has often limited my ability to try new foods.  I figured juicing could be the answer, and in a way it has.  I have significantly increased my veggie and fruit intake this week through juices.

My impression of juicing was a cleansing effect.  You drink your juice and after a few days your body quickly begins to dispel the toxins from your body.  Well if this is accurate I've had quite the opposite effect.  The first few days I was juicing for 2 meals, but quickly modified that to one.  I was feeling quite bloated and in a lot of discomfort.  Since I've cut back I feel a lot better.  My goal is to work up to a complete 5-7 day juice fast.  I am already feeling a lot more energized and find myself craving healthier alternatives.

I will admit I did splurge a bit this holiday weekend.  I came across a delicious recipe for cinnamon roll pancakes and cooked those up for Sunday morning.  The funny thing is 6 or so bites into my delicious meal I couldn't stomach anymore.  The richness of the cinnamon filling was too much.  My husband was left to finish them on his own.  I did supplement my breakfast with a delicious McDonalds hash brown.  I know I really went all out yesterday morning.  I did have my fruit juice for lunch, though.

Today I redeemed myself with a beautiful walk with the family up at Mt. Lemmon.  Our little escape from the desert in Tucson.  We met this nasty nice old Gila Monster on the road up.  My dad's a regular Dr. Doolitle so we stopped to encourage him off the road.  I was excited because I've never seen one in the wild.

We ended our day with some pizza at the Cookie Cabin and a nice hike on a new trail.  It was so green up there from the monsoons.  Incorporating more hikes and discovering our area is definitely on my list of things to do.

My fitness goal in September is 7000-10000 steps a day.  So far I've done pretty good.  I could've kicked myself halfway through our walk as I realized I forgot to put on my Pedometer today.  As summer is almost over and we are swinging into Fall I need to plan meals and exercise better.  It will definitely be easier to get in evening walks now that it is cooler.

  1. Almost found like an allergy or too much sugar (natural of course). I've never tried juicing because of that, but I've heard good things about cleansing teas. Wishing you luck in the eating world.

  3. Hmm. What kind of juices were you trying? Some veggies like carrots tend to be a bit more binding, but then others like apple and spinach have more fiber and tend to keep things moving along a little more smoothly. My fave is a spinach (3 fist's full), parsley (4 full stems), green apple (2), ginger (1/2"-1" depending on your tolerance for it), and lemon (1) mix. Keeps things pretty smooth. Good luck incorporating more juices and share your favorite recipes please please please!

  6. It's "normal" to feel that way initially on juice fast...after about day 4 or 5 is when it passes and you'll feel more invigorated and not bloated.
    Enjoy :)

  10. I have done juice fasting before but I coupled it with colonics. The colon cleansing really helped expel all the "goop" from my body so that the juices could really do their stuff - if you know what I mean! LOL
But I did lose alot of weight & I gained energy and slept so much better! Keep up the good work! You are off to a great start!
