Miracle Soap Scum Remover

I am going to apologize for the pictures of my dirty shower now but, I promise you WILL thank me.  It measures up to it's title of miracle, it is truly magic.

In this part of AZ our water is pretty hard.  It isn't uncommon for people to have water softeners.  The outcome is hard water stains.  It makes it very difficult to clean the grime that inevitably builds up.  I hate to clean the shower because of this.  Even the harsh chemicals weren't able to cut it.

12 oz. Dawn
12 oz. Vinegar
Spray Bottle

Heat  the Vinegar
Pour  Vinegar into spray bottle
Add dawn
Shake the bottle to mix the two

Coat your shower with the mixture.
Wait I let mine sit the first time for about an hour.  I had to use a little more elbow grease.  The second round on the floor I let it sit over night.  Wiped with a sponge, rinsed, and the stains were gone.

We are making the switch to homemade cleaning products.  This one will definitely be in our cleaning supply now.

  1. Oh, you are awesome! I put off cleaning my shower this weekend because I totally dread cleaning the scum. I have tried vinegar and baking soda, but not the vinegar/Dawn mixture.

    Thank you for sharing this!

  2. Can you keep the leftovers or do you have to use the entire amount at one time?

  3. You can save. The vinegar is heated solely to help dissolve an mix and mix the dawn together

    1. Absolutely! I have heard people use it on all kinds of surfaces: counters, sinks, I even used in my toilet (although sparingly b/c it is very sudsy).

    1. I use equal parts of dawn and vinegar. It is very sudsy and some people reported they diluted with similar results.

  15. I have used this recipe for bathroom cleanser for some time. A funny story - we had a cleaning company clean our house for several years and so I would only clean the tub and shower in between. Then, recently my husband retired and declared that we should give up the cleaning service and HE would clean the house. I agreed. He had cleaned for several months when I asked him if he was using this cleaner. He was not. I introduced him to it and he said, "It changed my llife!!" He loves it. It really is great.
